Photokinetic examination of (Z,E,E)-4,4′-distyrylazobenzene

Abstract 4,4′-Distyrylazobenzenes demonstrate a photokinetic equilibrium and a superimposed thermal backward reaction in which the absorption coefficient of one of the partners in the equilibrium is principally unknown. Using the dependence of the photostationary state on the irradiation intensity, the photochemical quantum yields ϕ 1 A and ϕ 2 B were determined, as well as the thermal rate constant k , as a function of the irradiation and observation wavelengths. Experimental difficulties and the wavelength dependence of ϕ 1 A and ϕ 2 B are discussed.

The reaction of the mononuclear complex [Cr(dpa)(ox)2]− (dpa = 2,2-dipyridylamine) with Ag+ in aqueous solution affords the two-dimensional compound {Ag3(H2O)[Cr(dpa)(ox)2]3}n·2nH2O (1) whose structure has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Six crystallographically independent metal atoms (three chromium and three silver atoms) occur in 1. The three [Cr(dpa)(ox)2]− units in 1 act as ligands towards the silver atoms through the two oxalate groups. Abstract Starting from a reference single-layer light-emitting diode based on the blue phosphorescent bis-cyclometallated iridium complex FIrpic as guest, hosted in a PVK (non-conjugated poly(vynilcarbazole)) matrix, different strategies are followed to improve the efficiency of the devices through the combination of solution processed and evaporated layers. In Situ Heating TEM Study of Onion-like WS2 and MoS2 Nanostructures Obtained via MOCVD

We report on the in situ heating transmission electron microscopy (TEM) study of WS2 and MoS2 nanoparticles obtained from metal–organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). The general behavior of MoS2 and WS2 is similar: Round, amorphous particles in the pristine sample transform to hollow, onion-like particles upon annealing. A second type of particle with straight layers exhibits only minor changes. A significant difference between both compounds could be demonstrated in their crystallization behavior. The results of the in situ heating experiments are compared to those obtained from an ex situ annealing process under Ar.

Model compound synthesis for the structure determination of new unknown planar aromatic compounds originating from pulp mill

Abstract Several model compounds have been synthesized for verification of the structures of new unknown planar aromatic compounds (UPACs) observed in high-resolution gas chromatography/low-resolution mass spectrometry analyses of the polychlorodibenzodioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorodibenzofurans (PCDFs) in pulp mill products, effluents, sediments and mussels. The mass spectra of synthetic alkyl polychlorodibenzofurans (C6-PCDFs) were different, but those of alkyl polychlorobibenzyls (C5-PCBBs) were very similar compared to the spectra of UPACs.

Designing Medical Devices Based on Silicon Polymeric Material with Controlled Release of Local Anesthetics

The drug delivery systems that are the object of this article take the form of a polymer matrix made of silicone containing a drug. These devices can be used as patches for local dermal applications releasing the drug in a controlled manner. The model active agent, lidocaine hydrochloride was chosen from the range of local anesthetics. When the drug is restricted to the surface, it is released more rapidly than when it is allowed to spread evenly throughout the silicon structure. The present study highlights the potential of robust tridentate ferrocenylphosphanes with controlled conformation as catalytic auxiliaries in CO bond formation reactions. Air-stable palladium triphosphane systems are efficient for selective heteroaryl ether synthesis by using as little as 0.2 mol% of catalyst. These findings represent an economically attractive and clean etherification of functionalized phenols, electron-rich, electron-poor and para-, meta- or ortho-substituted substrates, with heteroaryl chlorides, including pyridines, hydroxylated pyridine, pyrimidines and thiazole. 1D coordination polymer based on copper(II)-containing tetrameric 1,2,3-triazole ligand from click chemistry: Magnetic and catalytic properties

Abstract A novel tetrameric tetra[O-((1-benzyl-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)methyl)]-pentaerythritol (TBTP) has been synthesized using click chemistry strategy. TBTP was characterized and used as ligand to form new Cu(II) complexes, forming 1-D coordination polymers. Two square planar complexes were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, presenting formula [Cu(TBTP)][Cu(NO3)4] (1) and [Cu(TBTP)](NO3)2 (2). In both structures, a cationic 1-D coordination polymer (CP) has been formed. Columnar supramolecular architecture of crystals of 2-(4-Iodophenyl)-1,10-phenanthroline derived from values of intermolecular interaction energy

Using results of X-ray diffraction study supramolecular architecture of crystals of 2-(4-iodophenyl)-1,10-phenanthroline has been analyzed on the basis of quantum-chemical calculations of intermolecular interactions energy. It is demonstrated that these crystals have three levels of organization. Molecules form stacked dimers with the highest binding energy (first level). These dimers represent basic unit of infinite columns stabilized by stacking interactions between dimers (second level). The energy of intermolecular interactions between neighbouring stacked columns is very close. This does not allow to figure out any layers in the crystal.
